SOUTH AFRICA OVERVIEW

The fact that there are 11 official languages of South Africa demonstrates the incredible cultural diversity that exists in the county covering the southern tip of Africa. The country is also bio-diverse and is home to more than 20,000 types of plants, or 10-percent of all known species on the planet. Diversity has long been at the forefront in South African culture, and though it has led to a well-documented contentious political history, the country is developing on several fronts, including the South Africa luxury home market.

Bordered by ocean on three sides and boasting a temperate climate, South Africa provides several options for tourists and luxury home seekers. Cruise ships dock at the famous Port of Cape Town in the south, while amazing safari adventures can be had in the northeastern part of the county in Kruger National Park. More culture can be found in Johannesburg (aka Joburg), the country's largest city. In Joburg, you can be powerfully impacted by South Africa's history at the Apartheid Museum and also enjoy several art galleries, and entertainment and dining options.

Outside of Joburg and near all it has to offer is the traditionally wealthy suburb of Houghton Estate. The fast developing area has a distinct mix of architectural styles reflected in the grand Houghton Estate luxury homes. The suburb is also noteworthy as the home of Nelson Mandela.

On the coast nearly 600 kilometers from Cape Town is Knysna. Located on the Garden Route, a scenic stretch of southern South African coastline, Knysna enjoys a warm climate year-round that has made it a popular destination for retirees. The town is famous for "The Heads" - where two sandstone cliffs rise above either side of the Knysna River as it feeds into the ocean. Knysna luxury homes are situated to take full advantage of their location and offer extreme serenity.

Plettenberg Bay is sited further east on the Garden Route, and its white sand beaches on the Indian Ocean are a major draw. Also an attraction is the assorted wildlife of the area, where you can catch a glimpse of South African forest elephants, hundreds of bird species, and marine life including dolphins, coral reefs and Southern Right Whales that can be seen in winter and spring.

In any season and many regions, South Africa has much to discover and a myriad of luxury homes from which to take in the beauty.
